Mitt Romney – Will He Be the First Mormon President?

Republican presidential candidate Willard Mitt Romney was born on March 12, 1947. He was named for his father’s best friend, hotel businessman J. Willard Marriott and Milton “Mitt” Romney, a relative who played football for the Chicago Bears. His father, George W. Romney, was a former Michigan governor, Housing and Urban Development Secretary, American Motors chairman and presidential candidate. His mother, Lenore, was an unsuccessful U.S. Senate candidate in 1970. Romney married his high school sweetheart, Ann Davies, in 1968. They have five sons, Tagg, Matt, Josh, Ben and Craig and ten grandchildren. Ann Romney was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 1998.

Romney grew up Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, along with his three siblings, Lynn, Jane and G. Scott. After attending Stanford University for two semesters, Romney took a leave from school to serve a 30-month mission in France as an LDS missionary.

When he returned to the states, he transferred to Brigham Young University, where he graduated summa cum laude in 1971. In 1975, he graduated from a joint JD/MBA program between Harvard Law School and Harvard Business School.

Fun Quote: “No, I represent the people. You represent the media. You’re supposed to be unbiased.”

After college, Romney spent some time working for the Boston Consulting Group before becoming a vice president at Bain & Company, another Boston-based management consulting firm. In 1984, he left the company to co-found Bain Capital, which soon grew into a highly successful private equity investment firm.

In 1990, Romney was asked to return to Bain & Company, which was facing financial collapse. Within one year, he led Bain & Company through a highly successful turnaround and returned the firm to profitability. After that year, he returned to Bain Capital. During Romney’s time there, the firm founded or invested in companies such as Staples, Brookstone, Domino’s and The Sports Authority. He left Bain Capital in 1998 to head the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympic Games Organizing Committee. In 1999, Romney was hired as the president and CEO of the Salt Lake Organizing Committee. He contributed million to the Olympics and donated his 5,000 salary to charity. It was here that Romney first gained national recognition.

In 1994, Romney won the Massachusetts Republican Party’s nomination for U.S. Senate, but Senator Ted Kennedy went on to win the election with 58% of the votes to Romney’s 41%.

In 2002, after a battle over residency requirements, Romney was elected governor of Massachusetts with 50% of the vote over the Democratic candidate. He did not seek re-election. Instead, on January 3, 2007 (just two days before he stepped down as governor), he announced the formation of a presidential exploratory committee. On February 13, 2007, Romney officially announced his presidential candidacy.

As governor of Massachusetts, Romney supported education reform and abortion rights, but has since described himself as pro-life. He supports the death penalty and advocates making health care more affordable.

Romney is one of only a few Mormons, including his father and Orrin Hatch, to run for president.

Mitt Romney for 2012 President Race

Former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney officially became the second major Republican to be the GOP nominee in the 2012 presidential race in June 2011. To achieve his aim of winning White House bid, Mitt Romney is trying his best to show off her talented ability, knowledge and good minds. The 2012 presidential candidate announced a challenge to President Barack Obama in 2012 with his declaration that he would “put America back on a course of greatness.” Moreover, his announcement focused mainly on the troubled American economy and said he had “become convinced that America has been put on a dangerous course by Washington politicians, and it has become even worse during the last two years.”

Romney who was born in Michigan in 1947 is the son of George W. Romney, the former Governor of Michigan and Lenore Romney. He was ever a student of Brigham Young University. Romney joined the management consulting business, helping him reach a position at Bain & Company, eventually serving as its CEO to lead it out of crisis. Mitt Romney married his wife, Ann Romney in 1969 after years of dating out. The couple first met in elementary school when Mitt was a Cub Scout. Ann was riding a horse and Mitt Romney threw stones at her. They have a large family with five children: Taggart, Matthew, Joshua, Benjamin and Craig.

Republican presidential candidate and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney blamed the U.S. government’s credit downgrade squarely on President Obama on Monday August 8. According to Mitt Romney, downgrade by ratings agency Standard & Poor’s, which has sparked a sharp drop in global financial markets, “punctuated once again the failure of leadership by the president.”

Mitt Romney Suspends Bid for President

Republican Mitt Romney, who was putting up a brave front to Senator John McCain’s performance in the primaries, has finally decided to suspend his presidential campaign. The reason, he said, was that he did not want the democrats to win.

According to Romney, his decision to quit arose from noble sentiments. The former Massachusetts governor expressed concern that his continuing campaign could prevent a national campaign, and make it easier for Democrats Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama to win. “In this time of war, I simply cannot let my campaign be a part of aiding a surrender to terror,” he said, adding, “This is not an easy decision. I hate to lose.”

Of late, McCain’s nomination has seemed a very likely eventuality. At the Super Tuesday contests, Romney had scored a dismal 286 delegates, as compared to McCain’s score of 697 delegates.

Now, with Romney out of his way, the senior senator’s position as the GOP nominee for president seems almost a matter of time.

Speaking at the annual Conservative Political Action Conference, in Washington, where he announced his decision, Romney said, “If this were only about me, I’d go on. But it’s never been only about me. I entered this race because I love America, and because I love America, in this time of war I feel I have to now stand aside for our party and for our country.”

Romney said he disagreed with McCain on many key issues. However, he said, “But I agree with him on doing whatever it takes to be successful in Iraq, on finding and executing Osama bin Laden, and I agree with him on eliminating al Qaeda and terror worldwide.” According to a McCain aide, McCain called up Romney to say that he admired him and thought that he was a tough competitor.

Romney, who served a term as the governor of Massachusetts, decided to enter the race for president in 2007. The former investment banker ran his campaign on the strength of his perceived financial expertise. However, his candidature suffered from his frequent flip flops on issues such as abortion. Besides, his Mormon faith also drew considerable amount of attention.

Romney, who had funded a large part of his campaign from his personal resources, had come first in the Super Tuesday contests, from Alaska, Colorado, Massachusetts, Minnesota, and Utah. He also won from Maine, Michigan, Nevada, and Wyoming in the early voting contests. Mike Huckabee, who won the Iowa caucuses, seemed to be Romney’s most potential rival for the party’s conservative vote. He won Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Tennessee, and West Virginia in the Super Tuesday contests.

Mitt Romney Jobs Plan – How He Will Get Jobs Back In America

Just recently, former Governor Romney came out with the Mitt Romney jobs plan!  Romney unveiled his detailed 59 points job plan to supporters to coincide with Obama’s new plan to encourage job creation in the United States.  He has repeatedly stated that Obama doesn’t know the first thing about job creation as he has never worked in the private sector. Romney further points out that he has worked in the private sector for much of his career, which is unlike his current GOP rival Rick Perry.  Rick Perry has been governor of Texas for 10 years, and he worked in the public sector for many years before becoming governor.

Here are some of the highlights of the Mitt Romney jobs plan.  Romney has stated he will issue several executive orders as soon as he becomes President of the United States.  The first executive order will be to end Obamacare.  He believes that states should have the power to make decisions regarding health care decisions.  He will immediately request the Secretary of Health and Human Services to return all authority back to the states so they can make their own decisions regarding health care.

Romney recognizes the biggest negative against him are his actions in passing Romneycare when he was the Governor of Massachusetts.  He needs to end any speculation that his past history in Massachusetts with healthcare will affect his position on Obamacare.  This executive order should relieve GOP voters fears that Romney might leave Obamacare in place if he is elected.

The Mitt Romney jobs plan will end red tape that burdens the United States economy in job creation.  All of the new Obama era regulations will be eliminated immediately.  It will also cap regulatory costs increases at so that businesses will be incentivized to create new jobs.

Many voters are concerned about energy production.  In an effort to produce more energy and create jobs, Romney will issue an executive order to rapidly increase the issuance of drilling permits so that the United States can increase oil production immediately.  This should appeal to most Americans who are tired of paying high prices at the pump.

The Mitt Romney jobs plan states there will be an executive order to sanction China for unfair trade practices.  Romney wants to make trade with China more competitive, and this can only be a good thing for all Americans.

Romney will reverse the Obama policy of favoring organized labor through hiring unionized workers for government construction projects.  This will make it easier for small businesses to be awarded government projects instead of unions and large corporations who will likely support President Obama.

These are the five executive orders that Romney would put into place on day one of his administration, so this means we would not have to wait years for any of these regulations to be passed.  There are many other issues that Romney would like to get pushed through Congress.  Romney would encourage the legislative branch to pass a tax bill to get the corporate income tax rate down to 25 %.  He wants to create free trade agreements with Panama, Colombia, and South Korea.  He wants to encourage Congress to pass a more complete domestic energy plan to expand oil exploration and drilling.

This is just a small summary of what Romney would do as the next President of the United States.  The Mitt Romney jobs plan appears to be a great alternative to anything Obama has proposed as President!

Romney, Gingrich, Pawlenty – Presidential Possibilities?

Ex-Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney resigned Thursday as a director of the Marriott Corp. and reportedly hired a pollster and political director, moves that would indicate an early spring kickoff to his second run for President.
The week has brought developments that indicate multiple hats will soon be in the ring as Republicans seek to make Barack Obama a one-term president.
RealClear Politics reported that Romney has hired Rich Beeson as political director, a post he formerly held at the Republican National Committee, and has retained Neil Newhouse as his pollster. Newhouse worked in the upset victory of Sen. Scott Brown, R-Mass.
The 2008 Romney campaign was stocked with such talent. The book “Game Change,” an insider’s account of the race, said: “He had hired a squad of A-list consultants, pollsters and media wizards.”
Romney was architect on Massachusetts’ health care plan, and once made moderate Republican noises, declaring in a 1994 Senate bid: “I don’t line up with the NRA” on gun control. “
A second front-rank possibility, ex-House Speaker Newt Gingrich, told McClatchy: “I’m looking at making a decision by the end of February.”
Gingrich has not held public office since late 1998, but is ubiquitous on talk shows and a much-seen pundit on Fox News. He promised to “methodically see if it’s possible” to take the nomination.
A key will be the Palmetto State. “South Carolina has picked the last five Republican presidential nominees,” said Gingrich.
George Bush, Sr., put away Bob Dole and Pat Robertson in the 1988 South Carolina primary. Dole won in 1996, a prelude to Super Tuesday victories. George W. Bush came back from a New Hampshire loss to defeat John McCain in a vicious 2000 contest. McCain beat Mike Huckabee in 2008.
If he runs, Gingrich would be the second thrice-married Republican presidential candidate. Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani was the first.
Former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty has launched a bid for national exposure this week with publication of his book “Courage to Stand.” “T-PAW’ has even braved The Daily Show with Jon Stewart.
Pawlenty has been a regular on the GOP’s rubber chicken circuit: He was recent guest speaker at Washington State Republicans’ annual dinner. But he is not well known nationally.

Mitt Romney As Vice President?

Do we still remember Mitt Romney? Soon after Romney lost the presidential race, people stopped talking about his capabilities forgetting that he was second in the presidential race not the last one. Many people believe that Romney is much more capable that McCain in certain domains, and thus should be considered for the post of vice president, if not for presidential post. In fact, McCain has no reason to consider Romney as the only best candidate for the vice president post but Romney could prove to be the best.

In many aspects, Romney is much powerful than McCain. For example, McCain has always accepted that he needs to improve his expertise for economical issues, while everyone knows that Romney is very strong in the same. One can not say that McCain knows least about economics, but his viewpoints are somewhat low with his only admirable government.

If we consider the work of Romney in private sector, we can notice that he has proved himself a champion when it comes to economy.

His ideas have been breathtaking, budget cutters and corruption eradicators.

Among all the prospective contenders for the vice president post, he is the one who has rare experience of running his own business.

Let us look at what his company, Bain & Co.; a consulting firm, did in 1980s. This company, from the very beginning, worked very hard in that period and established itself in the market with a can-do attitude. Now this company is considered to be a giant consulting company in USA. Romney has also been interested in free trade and shows leadership. In Michigan, he was far more successful that anyone else to attract voters on the basis of free trade. Apart from this, Romney manages to bring talented executive in politics so that the country can be benefited to the maximum.

Considering all this, McCain can give our country a better vice president.

What Does Mitt Romney Stand For

As the GOP candidates gear up for a run against President Obama in 2012, many Republicans and conservatives want to know what does Mitt Romney stand for?  Is this the guy we want running our country in 2013?  Does he have the economic background to get our country back on the right track?  Can he lead America back to greatness?  Is he going to help us keep our energy prices down?  We know a lot about Mitt Romney from his failed nomination bid in 2008, but he has a better chance to win the GOP nomination for 2012.

Romney has publically stated that we are using too much oil, and he is in favor of exploring alternative energy sources like nuclear, ethanol, biodiesel, and coal gasification.  He also favors oil exploration in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.  He feels that the United States should be more independent and less reliant on foreign energy resources.

What does Mitt Romney stand for on immigration policies?  Romney favors a strong legal immigration policy, and he favors deporting illegal aliens who have not followed the proper procedures for entering the country.  He is against amnesty for illegal aliens, but at the same time, he does not feel we can round up all of the illegal aliens who have entered the country.  He believes that the federal government should cut off funding to sanctuary cities that encourage illegal immigration.

Romney states he believes that the US Congress does not need to officially declare war to take military action.  He believes that Guantanamo Bay should stay open.  He is opposed to using torture as part of US military interrogation strategies, but he does approve of enhanced interrogation techniques.   He has not specifically indicated whether he believes that waterboarding is torture, but he has stated he would refer to military experts on the subject.

Romney has stated that he supports the second amendment of the U.S. Constitution, which gives citizens the right to bear arms.  Despite his views regarding the second amendment, he is in favor of a ban on assault weapons. He supported the Brady Bill in 1994.  In earlier days, Romney did not support the NRA, but in 2008, he stated that he is a member of the NRA.  He hunts small game in Utah, but he does believe in some gun restrictions.

Romney passed a statewide healthcare mandate for the state of Massachusetts when he was the Governor of Massachusetts from 2003 to 2007.  He signed the bill in 2006 requires all Massachusetts residents to purchase healthcare coverage.  This bill could complicate matters in his run for the presidency, as many conservatives want ObamaCare to be repealed if Obama is not re-elected in 2012.  Romney has publically stated that he feels ObamaCare is not right for the United States, but he still supports his own state legislation from Massachusetts.

If you want to know what does Mitt Romney stand for, you don’t need to look any further than his recent statements since 2008.  He is consistently moving more to the right as we close in on the 2012 elections.

Mitt Romney – John Bolton: 2012 Winning Republican Presidential Ticket

The battle amongst a host of Republican candidates with varying degrees of ideology is heating up for the nomination to challenge Barack Obama for the presidency in 2012. Powerhouse names such as Sarah Palin, Newt Gingrich, Jeb Bush, Chris Christie, and Mitt Romney are dominating the media.

But as Republicans begin side up and decide who stands the best chance to beat President Obama in 2012, they must keep in mind that the recent sweep into power was not a Republican referendum, but a rejection of the socialist policies of the Obama administration.

Popular Republican candidates such as Jeb Bush and Chris Christie have already emphatically ruled themselves out as challengers in 2012. Of course this has never meant much in politics, but in the case of Bush and Christie, it stands to reason that it is just not the right time for either of them to run.

Chris Christie is undoubtedly a rising Republican star and his time is sure to come, but that time is not now. It is too early in his career and the country is not ready for another untested President. Jeb Bush simply has the wrong last name. It is just too soon for most Americans to stomach another Bush in the White House, and despite being one of the most qualified candidates, would lose on name recognition alone.

Newt Gingrich has been a workhorse in the Republican Party for decades. Sarah Palin is currently the face of Republicans, and the face of everyday Americans. Either one of these two candidates could easily carry the Republican base in the primaries and win the nomination. But winning over the base of conservatives is not going to beat president Obama in 2012.

- J Michael Nelson

Newt Gingrich defines what it means to be a conservative and is the leading voice for traditional values with a resemblance to Reagan conservatism. Sarah Palin is a rockstar in the Republican Party and draws crowds by the thousands, but is nationally polarizing to a fault. The problem is the regular folks are just not going to vote for candidates this far to the conservative right.

In addition to attracting new and young voters in 2008, Barack Obama owes his victory in large part to the independent voters who found something in his platitudes of hope and change that they themselves could believe in. If Republicans are going to take the White House back in 2012, they are going to have to focus a message of truth towards the disillusioned independent voter and earn back their trust. Republicans and Democrats alike will always vote with their base, but the independent voters decide elections.

The election in 2012 is not going to come down to Democratic progressivism or Republican conservatism. It will come down to the issues facing everyday Americans around the dinner table. In the midst of an unprecedented economic crisis and a high level of unemployment with future uncertainty, Americans want somebody who can fix the problem and return some sense of security back to their lives.

To this end, the best choice for Republican nominee in 2012 is former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney. Mitt is a lawyer by education, and has amassed a large personal fortune of more than 0 million. One of Mitt’s greatest achievements was his taking over a financially destitute and corrupt laden Olympic body in 1999. By the 2002 Winter Olympics, Mitt had ended the corruption and turned the Olympics into a financial windfall.

The primary crisis that our country currently faces, and will still face in 2012 is our looming debt and out of control spending. There is no better person to put in the White House to fix the economic crisis than Mitt Romney. He is the most qualified to personally make the best decisions necessary to get the country back on track without the pandering of economic advisors.

In addition to Mitt Romney’s economic expertise, he also has unique experience with the implementation of universal health care in Massachusetts. Although hailed for it at the time, he now looks back at it and sees things he would’ve done differently to avoid the debt crisis it has caused the state. Short of Republicans being able to repeal Obamacare altogether, Mitt would also be the best suited to deal with the crisis.

Finally, what Mitt Romney has that many of the other front-runners do not have is the ability to carry the independent vote. Mitt is seen as a moderate Republican. At times he has even been accused of being a flip flopper because of his positions on abortion and healthcare in the heavily liberal state where he was a Republican governor.

The combination of Mitt Romney being an economic expert in a time of American economic crisis, a universal health care expert in a time of Obamacare crisis, and a moderate Republican who could likely steal back a large number of the independent voters that Barack Obama relied on in 2008, make him unquestionably the most formidable challenger to Barack Obama in 2012.

Generally, the vice presidential pick is more about carrying a state to anything else. But in a time of so many crucial issues facing our nation, maybe it is time to look for a vice president that can actually contribute to the people with real policy influence.

With that in mind, some of the most vulnerable aspects of a Mitt Romney candidacy are a lack of foreign policy experience at a time when the world is on the brink, and his inability to carry the vote from the conservative base. The most highly respected right-leaning conservative that has proven himself time and again as a formidable foreign policy expert that would best compliment a Mitt Romney presidency is John Bolton.

Ambassador to the United Nations under George W. Bush, John Bolton has recently been positioning himself in a way indicative of a presidential run. The truth is he could not beat Barack Obama on the top of the ticket. His foreign-policy expertise is a much-needed asset in this time of world unrest, but his lack of domestic policy record, especially concerning the economy, could not see him win. In addition to that he would be considered far too conservative to appeal to the independent voter.

Yet, combining the expertise of Mitt Romney and John Bolton on a Republican ticket to challenge Barack Obama in 2012 would be virtually unbeatable in lieu of the current issues facing our nation.

On the top of the ticket you have a man that you can count on to use a moderate approach to fix the debt crisis and the out-of-control spending. Mitt simply knows how to run a business and a businessman is what this country needs right now. In addition, Mitt has all of the qualifications as the former governor of a state to handle the intricate responsibilities of the presidency.

To cover any of Mitt Romney’s vulnerabilities on foreign-policy, national security, and appeasement to the right-leaning base, there is nobody better suited to fill the void as the vice president than John Bolton. Mr. Bolton’s ability to carry the conservative base and have the primary responsibility as vice president of implementing foreign-policy while taking an active role in advising the president makes him the perfect match for a Romney administration.

In 2012 the country will not need politicians. Americans need to elect the right people to prioritize and fix the current problems that are diminishing the United States on a domestic and a foreign stage. This means instead of pulling the handle based on a creative commercial seen on TV, Americans truly need to understand who it is they vote for and what their professional experience can do to restore the greatness of the United States.

Despite all the other options out there, the facts are simple. Based on the needs of our country, the people we need in charge must be economic experts and foreign-policy powerhouses. That administration could be no better than a Mitt Romney – John Bolton ticket for 2012.
