Change Yes, Ron Paul No

Ron Paul’s obnoxious supporters like more traditional political activists can spin and delude themselves about election results. But the Iowa caucus results could not be clearer: The vast national desire for political change is manifesting itself through support for both Democratic and Republican change-candidates. Despite Paul being flush with money and having a large number of workers in Iowa, he was solidly rejected as the leading change agent.

Even with a huge historic turnout of about 348,000 participants, Paul did not attract significant numbers of independents that could easily participate in the Republican caucuses. They went to Obama, Edwards and Huckabee.

On the Democratic side, of some 232,000 people that turned out for the caucuses, nearly doubling what it was four years ago, about 70 percent wanted change and went for Obama and Edwards, roughly 150,000 participants.

On the Republican side, of the 116,000 participants, about 40,000 change-voters went for Huckabee, compared to 11,600 that chose Paul, giving him fifth place.

That 10 percent for Paul was very close to the 9 percent found in a Des Moines Register poll of likely caucus voters (margin of error 3.5 points). Interestingly, like Paul, Huckabee also wants to eliminate the federal income tax.

In both parties, change-voters totaled about 200,000. So Paul received just 6 percent of that large fraction, and just 3 percent of the total of all caucus participants in Iowa. Paul was first in only one county, Jefferson, with 36 percent

Edwards was absolutely correct when he summed things up this way: “The one thing that is clear from the results in Iowa tonight is the status quo lost and change won.”

With all the hoopla from Paul supporters about younger people being for Paul, that’s not what the Iowa results showed.

Younger people seeking change and inspiration flocked to Obama, in particular. There was no demographic in Iowa that overwhelmingly went for Paul. Sure, Paul beat Giuliani, but Paul’s effort in Iowa was much bigger than Giuliani’s.

None of these results will impact Paul’s supporters nationwide. Earl Ofari Hutchinson wrote a great article on Alternet.org: “Ron Paul is Scary, But Those Who Cheer Him Are Even Scarier.” He was right when he said: “The scariest thing about GOP presidential contender Ron Paul is not his fringe, odd-ball racial views. It is that people take him seriously.” But now Iowa has thankfully shown that the vast majority of Americans, especially those seeking political change, reject Paul.

After losing badly in Iowa Paul said: “The other candidates talk about tinkering with the status quo. We don’t want to tinker; we want to change the status quo.” He said that his campaign is on the upswing and gaining support among independents, frustrated Republicans and unhappy Democrats. Just one very big problem: The Iowa results show that all these people are much more likely to vote for other Democratic and Republican change-candidates.

Paul’s supporters claim that he will do much better in New Hampshire where Libertarian Party members hold a number of offices. I don’t think so. Several polls taken before the Iowa results found Paul at just 5 to 9 percent. Will Paul get a big boost from Iowa? I don’t think so. Paul had predicted he could finish in third place in Iowa, and many of his supporters think he will do that in New Hampshire. I don’t think so. Paul will likely finish fifth in New Hampshire, in large part because more independents will go to Obama and McCain.

When Paul first ran for president as the Libertarian Party candidate in 1988, he won just 0.54 percent of the vote. Iowa shows that his second presidential bid will not produce much better results. Paul is definitely not tapping in a major way into the national populist movement, major desire for political change, anti-status quo sentiment, or even the anti-Iraq war issue. Clearly, other Democratic and Republican change-candidates are doing much better. This reality will not affect Paul’s passionate, cult-like followers that are solidified like cement in their belief that Paul can and should be our next president, something that Paul himself probably never really believed.

Ron Paul Winner of CPAC Straw Poll 2011

Do you follow politics much? I have not been keeping up but I recently saw that Ron Paul has been chosen as the winner of the CPAC 2011 Straw Poll. This means that he is a leading republican candidate in the upcoming year. CPAC stands for Conservative Political Action Conference. This means that all of the conservative politicians meet in Washington to discuss their current policies and future actions to improve their standing in the political world. Well they have lots and lots of speakers and then they will discuss what is going on in the conservative political world.

Some of the speakers who attended the event included:

There are some pretty big names here that are to be considered worthy of a CPAC poll winner however it was Ron Paul that won out. He also won last years poll for CPAC 2010. Ron has ran for president several times under the independent label but perhaps in 2012 he will be a leading Republican candidate. 2 years in a row of winning the Conservative Political Action Conference poll is pretty darn good if you want to run under the conservative’s party in 2012.

I am wondering what your thoughts are on this poll. Should Ron Paul have won this CPAC 2011 Poll? (Vote and win a Free iPad!)

The Constitution for Dummies (i.e. Ron Paul Supporters)

I will freely admit that I did a bad, bad thing last week. Well, it wasn’t a really “bad” thing unless you were one of those that fell for it I guess. What did I do that was so bad? I set up the Paulbots. Yes, evil rotten me, I know.

When I wrote “Earmarking Our Way to Oblivion” I purposefully left out any mention of Ron Paul even though I knew he was just as dirty as all the rest. See, Mr. Paul’s own earmark fetish was certainly no real secret to anyone paying attention and with enough desire to dig a little. But the Paulbots were quick to comment about how because of the corruption that earmarks bring and how that they many times violate the Constitutional powers of Congress that this is exactly the reason why we needed Ron Paul.

Not a day goes by that supporters of Ron Paul aren’t out in droves proclaiming any conservative that does not support their candidate is an evil neo-con, trumpeting how Mr. Paul is a true “constitutionalist” and is the only man qualified to be President. Well, I guess we now see how accurate their description of their own golden boy really is considering news that has really taken off in the last couple days about his own requests for earmarks.

It is no secret to those of us that are out there everyday taking fire from the Paulbots that when Ron Paul commands them to jump they not only ask how high, but also at what angle, what flavor of Kool Aid Mr. Paul would desire they bring him after they land, how many ice cubes he would like in said drink, what color he would like his house painted, how many gallons of gas he needs them to put in his car, what time he would like his wakeup call for the following morning, how he desires his eggs cooked and whether or not he wants them to polish his fine silver clockwise or counterclockwise. The answer to that last one is that Ron Paul demands they first polish it six times clockwise followed by a single counterclockwise finishing polish. Their loyalty to the illusion of their candidate as a savior of us all and as someone that actually holds the Constitution dear is admirable if not highly misguided and naive.

Now the Wall Street Journal and other sources have what Paulbots are robotically and predictably calling a “hit pieces” on their candidate. Of course I still question whether or not Ron Paul really can be considered a “candidate” when he barely cracks one percent in the polls. But that is another topic for another day. Anyway these “hit pieces” detail how Mr. Paul, supposedly a libertarian, has requested millions of taxpayer dollars for roles not delegated to the federal government by we the people. Hardly a “libertarian” stance. Hardly “hit pieces”. Simply the truth.

Oh … well … uh … Ron Paul 2008! He’s still the man! Right Paulbots?

Last week the Paulbots were flooding me with comments about how we needed Ron Paul and about how I was right about the earmark problem. But this week I have particularly loved the responses by these same hacks to these new revelations and that have again flooded into my mailbox on cue since I blogged about Paul’s own earmarks on Tuesday. They say things like, “Well the money was going to be spent anyway!” and, “It’s ok because he is just serving his constituents like he is supposed to,” or boldly proclaim, “there is nothing unconstitutional about Paul’s earmarks!” or my personal favorite, “Well, yeah he requested the earmarks but he voted against them!”

That last one makes me chuckle. It’s a pathetic having your cake and eating it too argument that no true libertarian would embrace. Anyone with half a brain sees through this tactic as nothing but style over substance worthy of the staunchest liberals. Mr. Paul certainly understands that in the current corrupt Washington culture his earmark requests would pass even as he votes against them. He knows all he has to do is attach them to the spending bill in order to reap the benefits. A true libertarian would not even request them in the first place.

But rather than calling for his impeachment for violating the constitution, something I have done time and again for all politicians, regardless of party, that violate the Constitution, the Paulbots rush out to defend the man they have deemed as “the one.” Truth be damned! He really is a TRUE libertarian! Full ludicrous speed ahead!

It doesn’t matter that they were out there in mass decrying earmarks just a week before. It doesn’t matter that the Constitution is clear in Article I, Section 8 when it limits the powers of Congress to tax and spend on a concise list of things defined as the “general Welfare.” It doesn’t mater if Ron Paul has requested federal money to deal with issues found nowhere in these federal powers from funding for shrimp to building hospitals to maintaining trolleys. None of that matters because … well … Ron Paul is da man! Praise the Savior of our Republic! Hallelujah! And how dare I and others take his name in vain!

Blind loyalty is never attractive. And it is often deadly.

The Constitution is simple. It allows for laws and spending on the only a short list of topics which are clearly stated and any libertarian worth their salt knows of James Madison’s discussion of this in Federalist 41. The list that is there is the list. That’s it Mr. Paul. That’s it Paulbots. Nothing about shrimp. Nothing about trolleys. Nothing about most of what Paul’s earmarks are spending money on. No amount of whining about Ron Paul getting caught with his hand in the cookie jar will change the facts. No amount of hurling slurs like “neo-con” or “fascist” or “globalist” at those that exposed Mr. Paul will make a difference in the truth. Such tactics don’t work for liberals and they will not work for you.

I’m sorry I entrapped you last week. But it is something you are going to learn from as you progress on in life. Principles are only principles if you are willing to put your money where your mouth is and always watch your own glass house before you cast the first stone.

It’s so simple even a Paulbot can understand it. And I call on Ron Paul to be a true libertarian and draw up articles of impeachment against himself, convince his fellow Congressmen to approve the action and finally vote in favor of the action when the time comes to pay the piper.

But he won’t. He won’t because the fact is there are few true libertarians out here in the real world. We are a lonely bunch for sure. Even though lots of people envision themselves as such, when push comes to show they are at best nothing more than a bastard cousin; the liberaltarian. And that is why we are in trouble.

What Does Ron Paul Stand For

Many conservatives know what Mitt Romney stands for, but what does Ron Paul stand for?  What does Ron Paul believe?  Ron Paul is a different kind of Republican.  He often leans more as a libertarian candidate than as a Republican.   He does not fit all of the standard GOP positions, but he is strong on issues that matter to most Republicans.  He is most well-known for his positions on military and the economy, and many people like what he says.  He is the candidate most likely to run as a third party candidate if he doesn’t win the GOP nomination.  This could be detrimental to the likely Republican nominee if he pulls too much support from the elected Presidential candidate. 

So…do you want to know what does Ron Paul stand for?  Here we go!

Ron Paul is a strong supporter of states’ rights.  He believes that the states should be much more powerful than they are today.  He believes the individual states should be able to make their own decisions regarding any social matters that are not explicitly directed by the constitution.  He thinks the death penalty should be regulated by the states.  He also believes the states should make their own decisions about education and marriage too.  He even believes states should be able to make their own decisions regarding drug use like medical marijuana.

If you want to know what does Ron Paul stand for, you first need to know where he stands on economic policies.  Ron Paul has written six books on Austrian school economics.  Paul always votes against tax increases.  Ron Paul is against raising taxes under any circumstances.  He even feels that the country should abolish the state income tax, and he believes this can be done if we scale back the spending in the Federal government to 2000 levels.  Ron Paul gets a lot of support for his positions on the economy. 

He believes that the Federal Reserve should be abolished.  He does not believe that the country should return to the gold standard, but he is very concerned about inflation, and he is often known as an inflation hawk. He has been warning about the threats of hyperinflation since 1981. 

Paul is a pro-life supporter.  He spoke at the National Right to Life Committee Convention in 2007. He pushed for legislation that would give states the right to decide if they want to support or oppose abortion laws.  He opposes gay marriage, but he believes states should have the right to decide how to rule on the issue. 

Ron Paul’s views are significantly different than most Republicans on foreign policy matters.  He is a strong supporter of national sovereignty.  He opposed the Iraq War Resolution of 2002.  He does not believe the United States should be involved with the North American Free Trade Agreement, and he believes we should withdraw membership from the United Nations.  He believes strong National sovereignty is more important.  He believes that most of our military resources should be used to enforce border security.  He did support military action against terrorists involved in the September 11th attacks, but he feels the attacks should have been more limited to targeting specific terrorists as opposed to invading Iraq and Afghanistan. 

If someone asks you what does Ron Paul stand for, tell them he stands for responsible economic policies, strict interpretations of the Constitution, strong national sovereignty, and limited military involvement outside the United States.  Many people cannot honestly answer what does Ron Paul believe, but he would be an excellent candidate to run against President Obama in 2012.

Dear fellow Americans,

It is time for all proud Americans to return to our values, to the foundation of our nation. We have had enough of politics and partisan privileges.

The hard reality is that both major parties, that have controlled our country for so many presidencies, continuously fail to bring prosperity and undermine our most sacred rights, the freedom to live with dignity and peace in our hearts.

It is time to do what it is best for our nation and its people and not what a handful of influential economic powers dictate for their sole benefit.

It is for this reason that, after consulting with my family, colleagues and friends around the country, I have decided to intent to qualify for the presidential candidacy of this great nation, praying to GOD for guidance and protection in this most difficult endeavor.

I am not a politician, not a millionaire. I am just a simple person like most of us that loves and cares for our country and just cannot stand our nation’s unsustainable situation anymore.

I will not repeat the same political phrases candidates say in their speeches when they are campaigning and then not fulfill their promises. My main issue will be, to once and for all, unite our nation under the umbrella of our founding fathers and protect our freedom, peace and prosperity.

As an example of our political platform, we will push for a law that protects our low income senior citizens from paying taxes on their homestead and secure their basic needs are met.

We will protect the rights of our men and women in uniform, especially the ones that fought for our country to protect our rights and freedom. We will guarantee that, at their return, they will have secure jobs and their families will be guaranteed that their basic needs will be covered.

Since the basis of our nation is made of honest and hard working immigrants, we cannot tolerate discrimination in any form.

if one of the problems of our nation is illegal immigrants, we should contemplate the possibility of legalizing all these immigrants so they can start contributing to this country by paying taxes like all of us and by spending and investing their money in our country.

We need and we must implement a new solid and secure system to protect our borders and one option could be using the expertise of our armed forces to avoid the immigration problem in the future.

I am against the new health law for two main reasons. First, the cost of implementing this law will contribute to bankrupt our nation. Secondly, our government cannot impose a paid insurance to every citizen; it goes against our freedom of choice.

We need to find a solution to the healthcare problem in America and find avenues to provide free insurance to the low income people and reasonable and affordable insurance premium for the rest of the population.

Internationally, I will start to give priority to our American Continent. I believe it is very important to have a long lasting relationship with our neighboring countries and work in unity for a better future of our continent.

Our continent is so rich that we have all the major resources for future generations. We need to give priority to all the products “Made In America” and rebuild the manufacturing industry that will give jobs to our people.

At last and more important , we need to address the rampant spending that is pushing our nation to the brink of collapse. Our deficit is destroying our country from within.

I have a question for you, How confident are you in our nation’s future with the current trend of economic policies?

I only ask all Americans with solid values that love this country like I do to help me restore the faith and principles of our founder fathers and return this nation to be admired again as a great nation.
