Are Conservative American Voters Hopeless?

During late June, Fox News released the results of a poll.

Republican Primary voters told pollsters whom they hoped would become the 2012 Republican presidential nominee.

Here are the top results:

1) Mitt Romney with 18%
2) Rick Perry with 13%
3) Michele Bachmann with 11%
4) Rudy Giuliani with 10%
5) Sarah Palin with 8%
6) Ron Paul with 7%
7) Herman Cain with 5%
8) Tim Pawlenty with 3%
9) New Gingrich with 3%

The top five are all long established candidates.  The top five!

Why aren’t candidates outside the establishment faring better?

Aren’t voters supposed to be fed up with government corruption?  Weren’t there hundreds of thousands of protesters who protested against Obama, big government and corruption?  Wasn’t there a massive protest in September 2009, one with a crowd estimated to be as high as one million plus?

Aren’t the approval ratings of Congress running about twenty percent?

Wouldn’t you think people would be dying to see a fresh face, or someone who speaks candidly and rationally?

Let’s see how the less political than typical candidates fare in the poll:

1)  Herman Cain received only 5% of the vote:  Although Cain has been involved in politics over the years,  it’s my impression that he likely hasn’t been entrenched deeply enough to suggest he’s become corrupt.  My contention is bolstered by the fact that he has certainly done things atypical of a corruption politician, such as speaking candidly about Muslims.  In addition, he’s the former CEO of Godfather’s Pizza.

Couldn’t the presidency use a candid, logical outsider who is a businessman, rather than a lawyer?

2)  Ron Paul received only 5% of the vote:  Although Paul is a long time member of government, he certainly doesn’t seem to be very, if at all, corrupt.  He often speaks candidly and says things you won’t hear from other politicians.  One example of this is his criticism of the Federal Reserve.

Shouldn’t he be one of the leaders in the poll?  It’s interesting to note that he, like Cain, is not a lawyer.  He’s a doctor.

3)  Newt Gingrich received only 3%:  Although he was a long time politician, he certainly doesn’t seem to me to be as corrupt as most politicians.  Doesn’t anyone remember the success of his Contract With America?  Doesn’t anyone remember that America returned to a budget surplus while he was Speaker of the House?  If you’re going to choose a member of the establishment, why not him?

Weren’t all those conservative protests begging that the country get its finances in order?  Why is a person with such a track record being selected by only 3% of respondents?  It’s a disgrace!

Conclusion

Do conservative Americans really want change?

If they do, the country is certainly in trouble, judging by their inability to identify and/or choose change!

This one poll is enough to make me think that Americans might as well just give up right now!  Don’t complain and protest unless you do your part and become knowledgeable enough to do something about it!

While You Were Out – A Memo To The American Political Class

Dear American Political Class:

While you were all out campaigning over the past month or so, the following events happened that might be of interest to you and which you may not be aware of or sensitive to:

– While you were out campaigning, many of you spending millions of dollars of your own wealth to get jobs that generally pay less 0,000 a year, more than 50 U.S. troops were killed in action in Afghanistan, bringing to 417 that have been killed there so far this year (Source: iCasualties website)

– While you were out campaigning and spending billions of dollars of other people’s wealth to get jobs that generally pay less than 0,000 a year, the Federal government probably added another 0 billion to the national debt, over 0 worth of debt burden for every U.S. household.

– While you were out campaigning and slinging mud and childish accusations at each other, at least six American citizens were killed as a direct result of the Mexican drug cartels, 105 tons of marijuana bound for the United States was seized by Mexican police in Tijuana, Mexico, and a major drug smuggling tunnel, running from a warehouse in Mexico under the border to a warehouse in the U.S. was shut down.

– While you were out campaigning for jobs that will put your salary into the upper 95% percentile of all American workers, over 1.8 million newly unemployed Americans filed first time unemployment claims.

– While you were out campaigning to keep a plush job you already have or get a plush job from another politician, over 14 million Americans still have no job.

– While you were out campaigning, preening in front of all varieties of news media, most American students suffered through another month within a failing public education system.

– While you were out campaigning, flying and driving to numerous campaign stops, the country went another month without a comprehensive national energy strategy that reduces our dependence on foreign energy supplies while being kinder to the environment.

– While you were out campaigning and telling us how much you supported the middle class, you neglected to renew the expiring tax cuts before you left town that will add thousands of dollars to middle class tax bills in 2011.

– While you were out campaigning, posturing and “energizing your base,” America became more divided as ever as a result of your actions, words, slurs, insults, attack advertising and the derogatory efforts of your respective “friends” in the media.

But most importantly, while you were out campaigning, Americans started to realize that whether you are in Washington or not, nothing ever changes. This past month when you were not in session was really not any different than when you are in session. Issues are rarely ever addressed, reality based solutions never materialize, and those legislative actions that you do somehow pass such as health care reform, financial regulation reform, and economic stimulus packages have proven to be failures or are well on their way to failure.

We suggest that when you do decide to mosey on back to your jobs in D.C., you consider moving on some of the steps laid out in below:

1) Start reducing the Federal budget by 10% a year for the next five years in order to get the national debt under control so that each American household is not on the hook for another 0 every month that you do not act.

2) Reinstate the expiring tax cuts and make them permanent, returning our wealth to working Americans, the ones that worked and earned it, and helping to starve the Federal bureaucracy of funds so that it shrinks to do only the most essential tasks needed by its citizens.

3) Enact campaign finance reforms that can withstand a legal challenge and which allow only individual Americans to contribute to election campaigns, essentially freezing out corporations, unions, PACS, and other organizations from the campaign funding cycle. It makes no sense to spend billions of dollars to attain political jobs that pay so little in relation to the amount spent to get the jobs.

4) Enact a comprehensive, non-political problem solving process to finally develop an effective national energy strategy and policy.

5) Enact a comprehensive, non-political problem solving process to finally develop an effective national drug policy that balances freedom, protection, and treatment while bankrupting the violent drug cartels around the world.

6) Enact a comprehensive, non-political problem solving process to finally fix the failure that are most of our public schools.

7) Enact a comprehensive, non-political problem solving process to develop a real solution to the problem of escalating health care costs in this country, identifying the true root causes and attacking those root causes with the right solutions, a process not undertaken under Obama Care.

8) Start bringing back the majority of U.S. troops stationed overseas and develop a realistic and workable Afghanistan strategy. This strategy needs to take into account the recently disclosed close ties of the Afghan government with Iran, the rampant corruption within the Afghan government, and the double dealing of the Pakistan government which says they are our allies but who secretly support terrorist groups and individuals fighting our ground troops across the border.

9) Require all members of the political class to take and pass a basic course on economics in order to avoid implementing the failed economic stimulus programs of the past few years such as Cash For Clunkers.

While you were out, it has gotten really crazy, with ordinary Americans finally demanding real answers and real solutions. It does not look like they are willing to accept the same old behavior that we have been giving them over the past decades. Thus, while you were out, the American public started to tune in to your shortcomings and failures. Hurry back soon or they may decide they do not need you at all.

Sincerely:
The United States Of America

Another Historic American Election

Watch Out For Little Secessions Between Now And January

by Michael D. Hume, M.S.

It seems like there’s no story line that hasn’t been done (to death) about today’s U.S. election. But one that I’ve heard nothing about is that of parallels between this election and that of 150 years ago.

In 1860, Abraham Lincoln won the presidency on the ticket of the brand-new Republican Party. Though his platform did not include plans to abolish the evil practice of slavery, his views on the matter were clear enough to prompt all of the southern states to remove his name from the ballot. He won anyway. His election polarized the country, exposing the barely-hidden fault line that divided the nation between those determined to preserve a slavery-free Union and those committed to the states’ rights to decide such issues themselves.

Between Lincoln’s November election and his March inauguration, the states that would eventually form the Confederacy seceded.

The bloodiest war in American history was waged for the next four years to bring the South back into the Union.

If early returns and statistical polling are accurate, the Republican party is going to regain control of the House of Representatives today. The Democrats’ edge in the Senate will become razor-thin, and many states’ governor’s mansions and state houses will flip from Democrat “blue” to G.O.P. “red” before it’s over. Most see this as an angry reaction to an overreaching liberal agenda from Mr. Obama’s administration and the Congress, which has been controlled by the Democrats since 2006. The Tea Party movement will reach its goal today, by all accounts, and major opposition to the tax-and-spend liberal agenda will finally become possible.

Like the states’ rights crowd a century-and-a-half ago, today’s progressives are likely to see this election as a major threat – possibly even the death-knell of their dream of a socialist state in America.

Let’s hope it is. Meanwhile, it isn’t hard to see that the federal government is again at odds (though hopefully not to the same degree as in 1860) with the states. The fact that dozens of states are suing the feds over the constitutionality of the Obamacare socialized-medicine legislation… and the fact that the U.S. Justice Department is suing Arizona over its illegal-immigration law (even though the state’s law mirrors the feds’ own legislation)… is all the proof needed.

There are many serious problems facing us today, and the country is again deeply divided not only on how it should tackle them, but literally what sort of nation it should be. One of the key issues to watch in the coming weeks will be tax reform. Entrepreneurs, and those wishing to start a business, are hoping the federal government will come to its senses and make the 2001 and 2003 cuts permanent for all Americans (including the job-creating investment class maligned by the left as “The Wealthy”). Constitutionalists are hoping the tide of socialism can be turned back, and the nation brought back to the free-market principles that has led a global economy to prosperity since about the time of Lincoln himself. And average Americans are hoping the government will get off their backs on a full slate of issues, most notably the health care issue (most people have not forgotten that Obamacare was rammed through on questionable grounds and that their very right to quality medical care is threatened by it).

Add it up, and there’s a lot of hope for change out there – but not the sort of “hope and change” the Democrats sold us on only two years ago.

It’s been Stupid Season in the run-up to the election. Now, in the Dangerous Season between election and inauguration, like 150 years ago, the losers are likely to see what they can get away with. Those of you celebrating conservative victories tonight should be happy, but don’t party too long. Don’t relax. We need to keep the Tea Party pressure on this government and show that this isn’t a popularity contest. It’s the very future of our nation, and we mean business.

The American Economy and Election ?08

The American economy has spun into an economic meltdown, including the largest drop in GDP growth since 1980. The constant blow to the nation’s consumers has drastically reduced spending power, causing depression worries.  A widespread drop in housing prices, dips in the stock markets and insolvency by highly trusted banks have left people with no other option but to stop spending and start saving.

S&P/Case-Shiller statistics revealed that house prices in 20 big cities fell at the annual rate of 16.6%. There has also been a rise in the unemployment rate (6.1%) and is expected to move upwards further. Bloomberg forecasts that there may be another 0.2% increase in the last one month bringing the final statistics to 175,000 jobs lost. Reliable bank and credit sources have also lost shape and credit levels had already fallen to 3.7% in August.  Around the world, the Japanese and European economies are nearing recession and the global credit crunch has affected many more.

Tomorrow’s US presidential election will help decide the policies that will be in force for the next few years. Cutting taxes can leave extra cash, and credible plans for long-term fiscal health need to be put in place. Obama’s plan to put billion in reserve and investing billion has got him 82% support from one of the leading online discussion network, Minekey. His plans to introduce a tax credit of up to 0 per person and many more such similar benefits may work well for the economy. Economic policies that act as stimulus to the present depressing economic status can act as a catalyst in raising current standards.

Going by the trend set by people the world over, at the popular discussion network Minekey, Obama’s policies are well received and appreciated. Opinion polls conducted by Readers Digest also shows a mixed blend of nationals voting for Obama’s strong economical and financial policy proposals. A reality check on what is actually being discussed and agreed upon can be found at many of the online election sites, that have contributed to creating awareness about the current economic and political scenario. Strong recommendations on where to invest in the coming months and how well taxes can be cut down can be got from these discussion boards. They have not only generated support for the candidates, but also helped users to vote, discuss and express freely their opinions on the probable effects of these policy proposals.

What happens after November 4th, 2008 is yet to be seen. What has happened so far may go for the better or worse after the introduction of new policies. The American economy and the election’s outcome can make a huge difference in global markets. While at home, jobs can be restored and houses can be saved, markets worldwide can manage to cross over again, if this consistent slump down can be slowed down and stopped eventually. The trend may continue up to the first quarter of 2009, after which there can be seen some vital signs of improvement. Policies implemented after elections may also take its own time to restore economic normalcy and stabilization. Meanwhile, those who have managed to save and do not use credit are those who may be able to sustain the economic depression.
